No rush from us
You are allowed to still be thinking about it
Most of this trade sells urgency. It works on completions and it is the wrong register entirely for somebody deciding whether to leave a house they have lived in for most of their life.
-
We will not push you to book
A downsize is usually decided over a long stretch and revisited more than once. If you are thinking about it rather than doing it, that is a perfectly good reason to get in touch, and we will not chase you afterwards.
-
A survey is not a commitment
Plenty of people want to know what is actually involved before they decide anything at all. We are happy to come and look and leave you with a written picture, whether or not you use us.
-
You can do it in stages
Clearing first, moving later. Family deliveries before the main day. A storage run to make the house easier to show. Stages cost a little more than doing everything at once and are very much easier on everybody.
-
Somebody else can be involved
A son or daughter organising it, a solicitor, a care manager, a neighbour with a key. Tell us in writing who is authorised and we will deal with them properly rather than asking you to repeat yourself.
-
We will not value your things
We are removers, not valuers. If we think something warrants a proper opinion we will say so and suggest you get one, and we will never make an offer on anything we are clearing.
Why this is worth saying out loud
Most removals marketing is built for completions. A date exists, somebody else set it, everything is urgent, and the firm that answers fastest wins. It is a perfectly reasonable way to sell a house move.
It is the wrong register entirely for somebody deciding whether to leave a house they have lived in for most of their adult life. That decision is not made in an afternoon, it is frequently made and unmade more than once, and being pursued about it is unpleasant.
So we do not pursue. If you ring us to understand what is involved and then do nothing for a long time, that is a completely normal use of our time and we will not follow up about it.
What a no-obligation survey actually is
Somebody comes, looks at the whole house including the loft and the garage, talks it through with you, and leaves you with a written picture of what is involved. If you have a new property in mind, we will measure that too.
You are not signing anything, you are not committing to a date, and you are welcome to use the information to get other quotes. We would rather you decided properly.
Doing it in stages
Very few downsizes have to happen all at once, and most are easier if they do not. Clearing first, so the house shows better and there is less to think about later. Family deliveries before the main day, so those pieces are settled. A storage run to take the pressure off.
Stages cost a little more than a single day. They are almost always worth it.
If somebody else is helping
A son or daughter, a solicitor, an attorney acting under a power of attorney, a care manager or a neighbour with a key. Tell us in writing who is authorised and we will deal with them properly, keeping you copied in if that is what you want.
Get in touch
Start whenever you are ready
Including if that is a long way off. We will come and look, talk it through, write it down and then leave you alone until you get in touch again. There is no obligation and we will not chase you.
